was my best friend..."
A moving account of losing a horse
you love
My
name is Vicky and I am 18 years old. Over the last few
weeks my 19 year old pony had been constantly up and down
and seemed really tucked up. The vet came and took blood
tests which determined she had liver damage, probably
through ragwort poisoning years ago. Rio looked so healthy
which was worse in a way because I could'nt get my head
around the fact that she would have to be put to sleep.
I
found this out last Friday, so we I decided to put her
to sleep while she still looked good and was'nt in to
much pain.
We spent
a lovely morning together, I sat in the field with her for
a few hours while I took photos then I held her while the
vet did I what I dreaded her doing. Rio fell asleep in my
arms. I felt so empty, she was my best friend for 4 years
and 7 months, I really miss her and I just don't know what
to do with myself. I feel so guilty because over the last
few weeks I had'nt spent a lot of time with her due to my
A levels.
The
day she died I finished college. I think the point I am
trying to get over is to never take advantage of your horses
because they can just be taken away from you like mine was,
but I know I will see her again one perfect day.
