Riding
At Any Level is a Risky Pursuit
Riding
at any level is a risky pursuit, so it is vital to wear
the right safety wear. Along with a correctly fitted Helmet
a Body Protector should be a priority. Body protectors can
reduce the severity of injuries, a well-fitted garment can
minimize rib fractures and help prevent bruising, together
with protecting the internal organs.
There
is now a European Standard for Body Protectors - EN13158:
2000. The British Equestrian Trade Association (BETA) has
upgraded their standard (BETA 2000 Standard) to harmonize
with this. There are three categories of protection, Level
one (Black Label) is only designed for use by licensed jockeys
as it is offers significantly less protection than a Level
2 (Brown Label) which is the minimum recommended for normal
riding. Level 2 is only considered to be suitable for low
risk situations. Level Three (Purple Label) offers the highest
level of protection and is suitable for all riding activities.
Air
O Wear has used the upgrade to these new standards as an
opportunity to incorporate both technological and ascetic
improvements to their Body Protectors. Air O Wear's Reiver
2000s use softer more flexible foams that mould to the body
better when worn. The adjustments are easier to use correctly
providing greater security in accidents. The Reiver is also
clearly marked to show when it is incorrectly adjusted or
the wrong size so is simple to check for fit.
The
Reivers are adjustable at the waist and shoulders for an
adaptable fit. With unisex fit from a small child to large

have ventilation holes for flexibility and coolness. Finally
